In Manchester war ich mit einem jungen Pakistani verabredet, um dessen Erfahrungen nach dem Brexit-Entscheid zu dokumentieren. In den Medien war von wachsendem Rassismus die Rede gewesen. Vor Ort stellte sich dies sehr viel differenzierter dar, außerdem wollte mein Ansprechpartner jetzt doch nicht fotografiert werden. Und wirklich reden wollte er auch nicht. Umso lauter sprach für mich die Stadt selbst, und mich beschlich die Frage: Könnten diese Bilder ein Vorbote sein für das, was mit dem Brexit kommt?

I travelled to Manchester looking to meet a young British-Pakistani man, hoping to document his experiences after Brexit vote. At the time the media had been lamenting the rise of Racism since the UK voted to leave the EU. Reality turned out to be a lot more nuanced, and despite his claims to the contrary, he didn’t want to be photographed. He didn’t really want to speak much, either. Travelling around Manchester, the city ended up telling me a lot more and I had to question: could these images be a harbinger of that which comes with Brexit?
